Visit of Kristalina Georgieva to Slovakia

On 23 November 2012, Kristalina Georgieva, Member of the EC in charge of International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, went to Bratislava where she watched two demonstrations by the country's civil protection services. She began her visit by meeting a cross-section of Slovakian NGOs and discussed key priorities, included the Commission's resilience agenda. The Member of the EC hold talks with Miroslav Lajčák, Slovak Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs. They explored ways to strengthen cooperation to increase the impact and effectiveness of EU humanitarian aid. Then she witnessed an evacuation exercise during a simulated flood alert, organised by the Association of non-professional fire-fighters, in the company of Robert Kaliňák, Slovak Minister for the Interior. They also watched a demonstration by a special emergency unit trained to tackle industrial accidents such as chemical spillage.
