On 14 November 2012, Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, was in Cairo, Egypt, to co-chair the EU/Egypt Task Force with Mohamed Kamel Amr, Egyptian Minister for Foreign Affairs. An important economic and political aid package was agreed upon to assist Egypt in its transition. The EU contribution will be 5 billion euros in supplementary funds for 2012-2013.

||Statement (in ENGLISH) by Catherine Ashton, stating that it is one of the most important meetings between the EU and Egypt; stating that the aim of the EU—the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Member States, the European Investment Bank, the private sector (over 100 companies), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, etc.—is to work together to support Egypt, the "new" Egypt, through its political transition and economic development and growth; stating that during this meeting, they had discussed many issues vital to the future of Egypt: commercial ties, economic cooperation, the importance of tourism, political reform, human rights, governance, the role of women in society, new technologies, the sciences and asset recovery; stating that they have implemented real and tangible measures designed to assist Egypt in its transition; stating that the EU will contribute 5 billion euros in supplementary funds for 2012-2013.
