That does demonstrates to this House and the wider public that all the EU institutions including this House have done its very best to act in a responsible way in terms of next year budget."
||SOUNDBITE (Greek) by Loucas LOUCA, European Council," In theses difficult moment everyone wants to know that valuable programmes and actions of the EU can continue and can function without interruptions most specifically , its important programme such as ERASMUS or life long training, the framework programme for research , the development programme, the European Social Fund and many infrastructures projects in the area of cohesion can be continued"
||SOUNDBITE (ENGLISH) BY Janusz LEWANDOWSKI, European Commission, "Although this is austerity budget, this is a budget for investment and I am deeply concerned as to the level of payments and I share your concerns for the level of payments for 2013, this is by 5 billion less than in the draft budget."
||SOUNDBITE (French) by Alain LAMASSOURE, (EPP,FR),' All European programmes that were frozen since October are now saved, ERASMUS is saved, research is saved, globalization adaptation funds, we are talking about 5000 workers in seven countries, they will be able to get paid ."

||SOUNDBITE( Spanish) by Elder GARDIAZABAL RUBIAL (S&D, SP), " It is not just a budgetary problem, I think this is a first phase of a strategy to justify cuts in the financial framework and European ambition, that is what is really at stake here, a strategy to cut CAP money, cut cohesion policy, trans European energy Networks, telecom funding, that is not the way forward. We need a strong and reliable budget to face up to the crisis."
||SOUNDBITE (German) Helga TRUPEL (ALE/ GREEN, DE)," I would say that the Greens are not satisfied with this result and that's why we will vote against this. Why is it a poor compromise? Because the line of the Parliament was that we said at the start , during the course of 2012 we would emerge with a lot of budgetary shortfalls because the money that we agreed upon in the previous year would not be enough and that exact thing came about."
