On 24 October 2012, Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC in charge of Regional Policy, participated in the opening ceremony of a new bridge connecting the Bulgarian region of Vidin to neighbouring and Calafat, in Romania. On this occasion, Johannes Hahn gave a speech in presence of Victor Ponta, Romanian Prime Minister, and Boïko Borissov, Bulgarian Prime Minister. The Vidin–Calafat Bridge, also known as Danube Bridge 2, is co-financed by the EU and is only the second bridge along the countries' 630 km border, demonstrating how the EU's Danube Strategy is stepping up cooperation in the region.
