On 24 October 2012, László Andor, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, visited Les Restaurants du Coeur in Strasbourg and met with Olivier Berthe, President of Restos du Coeur, on the occasion of the European Commission's proposal to set up a Fund to help the most deprived persons in the EU.
The Fund would support Member State schemes providing food to the most deprived people and clothing and other essential goods to homeless people and materially-deprived children.

||Soundbite by László Andor (in ENGLISH): We need to have strong financial instruments to address poverty and deprivation in Europe. That is why we decided to adopt a proposal about a fund for European aid for the most deprived. This is fundamentally about providing food and other necessities like soap or shoes or help to access decent housing or even jobs. This fund could work after 2014 in the next financial programming period and can use about 2.5 billion Euros from the European Union budget.
||Soundbite by Olivier Berthe (in FRENCH) saying that for Les Restaurants du Coeur, a French Association, European aid represents one quarter, 25% of what we distribute, 15 million meals distributed every year, comes from European aid, that is why it is very important that it be maintained.
