On 19-20 October 2012, Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC in charge of Regional Policy, travelled to Greece to outline the most effective way to use EU Regional Funds for growth in the EU's next long-term budget. On 20 October 2012, he visited the restoration site of Thessaloniki's waterfront and the Gas Compressor Station of DESFA. On this occasion, he met with Yiánnis Boutáris, Mayor of Thessaloniki, and Stratos Simopoulos, Greek Secretary General for Public Works.
