00:00:25 SOUNDBITE (Iranian) Shirin EBADI, Lawyer and Human Rights Defender Nobel Peace Prize© 2003: "By granting the Prizes you have drawn the attention to the human rights activities in Iran. By granting this Prize you have indicated how limited freedom of speech in Iran is". 00:00:32
00:00:57 SOUNDBITE (Iranian) Shirin EBADI, Lawyer and Human Rights Defender Nobel Peace Prize© 2003: "Take the means of publicity available to the Islamic Republic from it. Don't allow the Islamic Republic to abuse your satellites for its own benefit. Eutelsat company which owns 'Hotbird': I ask you to ban the use of its satellite for the state-owned TV and radio programmes." 00:00:35
00:01:32 SOUNDBITE (French) Karim LAHIDJI, Lawyer and Human Rights Activist: "Other than Nasrin Sotoudeh there are 9 other lawyers in jail. 13 years of prison for the lawyer who has defended Ms Sotoudeh. As a magistrate yourself Mme Joly you are aware that 13 years is a sentence for a criminal offence like murder. In fact, lawyers in Iran are treated like criminals". 00:00:41
00:02:13 SOUNDBITE (French) Karim LAHIDJI, Lawyer and Human Rights Activist: "Unfortunately, what we are living is worse even than 5, 6 or 8 years ago. Not only has the human rights situation not improved, but it's been a steady persistent deterioration… Until when? I don't know". 00:00:26
00:02:39 DBITE (Iranian) Shirin EBADI, Lawyer and Human Rights Defender Nobel Peace Prize© 2003: "We don't want Europe to change the Iranian regime, but we ask Europe here, I ask Europe here why do you allow someone to travel to Europe when he is on the list of the sanctions? or why do you accept dirty money? or why do you sell weapons to Iran?". 00:00:33
00:03:12 SOUNDBITE (Iranian) Shirin EBADI, Lawyer and Human Rights Defender Nobel Peace Prize© 2003: "I would like to ask you a question, to all of you and to those who are going to talk to Iran about nuclear issues. My question is to al European countries: assumed that tomorrow the Iranian government accepts to leave aside Iranian nuclear uranium enrichment, would you accept to stretch your hand of freedom with a government which stones women? Are you ready to sign a trade agreement with a government that executes individuals under 18? Are you ready to shake hands with a country as trade partner which cuts the fingers of thieves? Therefore I ask you not to pay attention to the nuclear energy alone, pay attention to the violation of human rights as well". 00:01:27
00:04:39 SOUNDBITE (French) Eva JOLY, Chair of the EP Committee on Development: "We have listened to you; we've heard the requests that have been made: to stop using European satellites for the dissemination of hate broadcasting, don't grant visas to people who are involved on human rights violations and keep a better eye on illicit financial flows. You can count on our committee for taking this in account in future legislation". 00:00:29
