Open Days 2012: 10th European Week of Regions and Cities: highlight of 08/10/2012

On 8 October 2012, four days of debate and discussion on the future shape of EU Regional Policy and how it will remain the investment arm of the EU budget, were officially opened by Herman van Rompuy President of the European Council and by Martin Schulz, President of the EP. EU Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC in charge of Regional Policy, co-hosted the event with Ramón Luis Valcárcel Siso, President of the Committee of the Regions. They debated the added value of Regional Policy in spurring Europe's economic recovery and how it is actively encouraging ownership of the Europe 2020 Strategy, along with Eleni Mavrou, Cypriot Minister for the Interior and President in office of the Council.
