The human rights situation in Belarus remained critical. 12 prisoners convicted for their political and social activities remained behind bars. It became known that torture and ill-treatment were used towards another political prisoner
Among those prisoners there is the human rights defender and Vice President of the International Federation of Hunan Rights Ales Bialiatski, former presidential candidate Mikalai Statkevich and the leader of the youth organisation ‘Malady Front’ Zmitser Dashkevich, who has recently gone on hunger strike in protest against abuse and threats on the part of prison officers.
EP President Martin SCHULZ, has meets the wives of those Belarusian political prisoners, and reassure them of the European support for their liberation.
