Angela Merkel paid an official visit today to the European Parliament in Brussels. Her official visit to the European Parliament takes place less than three weeks before the special summit on the multiannual financial framework for 2014-2020. Last weekend, she said that the sovereign debt crisis in the euro zone would last for at least five years; although a year ago she said that this would last 10 years. During a congress of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in Mecklenburg-Pomerania, AFP reported that she stated “we will have to hold our breath is for five years … at least”.
