||Statement by Janez POTOČNIK, Member of the EC in charge of Environment (ENGLISH): "The international community has indicated that we must move toward sustainable development and include agreement en resource efficient economy is a central task way to achieve it. However we recognize that Rio is just the beginning and the range of activities has now to be followed through the international level. The EU is also fully committed to contributing to eradication of poverty and improving people's live, while significantly reducing pressures on the environment. Even if we think that although of course it is not the only answer, we believe that it is an important answer."

||Statement by Janez POTOČNIK, Member of the EC in charge of Environment (ENGLISH): "As you will be aware, the Rio declaration includes an agreement to set an intergovernmental process to develop auctions on the sustainable development financing strategy from organizing financial resources. It also contains express acknowledgment that new partnerships and innovative sources of financing can play a role in complementing sources of financing for sustainable development. We very much agree with this and we look forward to working into this context to identify innovative sources of financing that can support moves to green economy and also to sustainable development."

But a lot of work is still ahead of us including into the area which we are discussing today: innovative financing."
