On 28 June 2012, Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC in charge of Regional Policy, went to Slovakia, the second country to be visited during his Danube Region tour. He met with government representatives, Dušan Čaplovič, Slovak Minister for Education, Science, Research and Sport, Ján Počiatek, Slovak Minister for Transport, Construction and Regional Development, and Peter Žiga, Slovak Minister for Environment, to discuss how implementation of projects in the framework of the Strategy could be facilitated and speeded up. One of the topics discussed was the creation of an European Innovation Fund for the Danube Region.
