On 30 May 2012, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, addressed a condolence message to the victims of the eartquake that took place in the region of Emilia-Romagna, in Italy, on 29 May 2012. He also announced the visit of Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC in charge of Regional Policy, and Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Industry and Entrepreneurship, to the region on 3 June 2012.

||Soundbite by José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, (in ITALIAN): I want to express on behalf of the College, and my own, our condolences to the victims of the earthquake that took place in Italy on 29 May 2012. The European Commission is sincerely sorry and expresses its full solidarity with Italian citizens. We are ready, within our means, to help Italy to deal with the consequences of the natural catastrophe. Johannes Hahn, Member of the EC in charge of Regional Policy, will go to the region Emilia-Romagna, in Italy, on 3 June 2012. He will be accompanied by Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Industry and Entrepreneurship.
