On 31 May 2012, Nemat Shafik, Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), gave a speech at the 13th Brussels Economic Forum (BEF). On this occasion, she addressed the importance of finding new sources of growth, supporting demand in the short run, restoring the health of the financial sector, reforming labour market, lowering regulatory barriers, increasing investment, and introducing a common backstop for a pan-European financial system.
The BEF 2012 offers a unique opportunity to discuss the next phase of European economic development. High level decision-makers, economists, business executives and the media will gather at the Forum to debate and exchange ideas.
