00:00:29 SOUNDBITE (English) José Manuel BARROSO, EC President "Europe is not Brussels alone, Europe is you , is all of us, leadership. Leadership has to be done at European level, European institutions have responsibilities, they can not escape it and they should be self critical if needed. That why we have the Ombudsman, as one of the core important institution that we have in our system, and now in the Lisbon Treaty we have created some news mechanisms that complements the democratic mechanisms, like participatory democracy , like the citizens initiative and so on. The European institutions have their role and we can not replace - and it will be a mistake to think we should - the national governments or the national parliaments. I will go behind that, the society".... 00:00:47
00:01:16 SOUNDBITE (English) José Manuel BARROSO, EC President "Europe can only be build in terms of confidence if the leaders have the courage to stand by , to stand for it, to defend it like for any project". 00:00:12
00:01:28 SOUNDBITE (English) José Manuel BARROSO, EC President "In many of our member states when you ask the people , in most of our member states people give more confidence to the EU than to their national governments or to their national parties. In some countries; not in all". 00:00:16
00:01:44 SOUNDBITE (English) José Manuel BARROSO, EC President "We are in this crises today mainly due of two factors: irresponsible behaviour of some governments that accepted an extremely high level of unsustainable debts, and now they have to make corrections; and also the irresponsible behaviours in the financial sector. By the way: all those instruments to control the behaviour of the financial sector were national instruments". 00:00:27
00:02:11 SOUNDBITE (English) José Manuel BARROSO, EC President "Before we had no powers for instance to act regarding the financial sector. It was the national backs and the national regulators. All this financial bubble was created and developed under the responsibly of national regulators". 00:00:19
00:02:30 SOUNDBITE (English) José Manuel BARROSO, EC President "Why we have the crises ? Some people are saying that the crisis is a result of the Euro. FALSE , complete FALSE ! We have several governments in Europe that are not in the euro area that are having exactly the same problems or even worst. We also have the case of Iceland. It its not even a member of the EU , and they had one of the worst financial catastrophes in Europe(as a whole). Let's put it clear Europe was not the problem, Europe can be the solution". 00:00:28
00:02:58 SOUNDBITE (German ) Martin SCHULZ, EP President " What happen if the EU collapses? Than we are back to the Europe of 70 years ago, fighting between nation states , and that at the time when European cooperation is needed more than ever". 00:00:27
00:03:25 SOUNDBITE (German ) Martin SCHULZ, EP President "What we need in Europe: if we are to create a European sovereignty we need a model of European division of powers. I hope that the next European elections 2014 will be run between political families and the lead candidate, to insure that the office of the President of the Commission, is such that everyone in Europe can understand what programme are favoured by the European executive a government. 00:00:35

00:04:28 SOUNDBITE (German ) Martin SCHULZ, EP President "People are now talking more about the administration rather than the idea. I think we have to decide if we are going to move away from the idea, or we are going to change the administration? I'm strongly in favour of changing the administration and strengthening then ideal". 00:00:12
00:04:40 SOUNDBITE (English) Helle THORNING-SCHMIDT, Prime Minister of Denmark and President of the Council of the EU "There is a profound need for additional - what I call - the home made economic growth in Europe. We have to get that trough a revitalised single market. The single markets its something we take for guaranteed sometimes. But sometimes we should stop and look at the single market and conclude that that is perhaps one of the greatest achievements on the history of the EU". 00:00:28
00:05:08 SOUNDBITE (English) Helle THORNING-SCHMIDT, Prime Minister of Denmark and President of the Council of the EU: "One each occasion that we have has trough our history we have shown the political will to produce solutions allowing Europe to progress, and I think this is a notion that Europe should progress , that we are capable of taking decisions even in very hard time, and always win at the end". 00:00:24
00:05:32 SOUNDBITE (English) Helle THORNING-SCHMIDT, Prime Minister of Denmark and President of the Council of the EU: "This initiative will allow 1 million EU citizens to express their wish in a particular piece of legislation, to be introduced at the European level. It will guaranty the citizens a real opportunity to set the agenda". 00:00:21
00:05:53 SOUNDBITE (German ) Martin SCHULZ, EP President: " On the single sit. I think I've already said everything I can say about it . European Parliament has its sit, one site, and that Strasbourg this is said in the Treaty. if we want to change that than we have to change the Treaty. Mrs Thorning-Schmidt are you willing to change the treaty? Perhaps Prime Minister Ruttel (Netherlands) , - Well, he is not here with us now, but prime minister Cameroun , and the coalition treaty with the liberal democrats said that the issue of the site of the EP will be bridged, well , I wait that with breather breath". 00:00:40
