On 23 January 2012, José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC and László Andor, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, met in Brussels with the Social Partners (Workers and Employers’ Representatives). They discussed Europe's responses to the sovereign debt crisis that is affecting labour markets in the European Union, in the light of the upcoming European Council of January 30th. They also talked about restructuring. The European Commission has launched a Europe-wide public debate on corporate restructuring and anticipating change. The aim is to identify successful practices and policies in the field of restructuring and adapting to change.
