||SOUNDBITE (French) Martin SCHULZ, EP President: "We also need investments in Europe, with investments we can create hope. Europe is suffering from a psychological crisis, specially the young people, they need some hope for the future. And this will not happen with budgetary austerity, but with growth, because growth is the basis for employment".
||SOUNDBITE (French) Martin SCHULZ, EP President: "I am very happy that Alfredo has recognised that the EP is the place where the debate on the future of the European Union must be carried out. Where the controversies in between the different political tendencies, and even between the member states can be debated, where the different strategies can be explained loud and clear to the European citizens".
||SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Alfredo Pérez RUBALCABA, Secretary General of PSOE (Partido Socialista Obrero Español): "We need to give visibility to the EP in our countries, we need to recognised its importance in the decision making process; otherwise we risk that the European citizen will be feeling more and more disconnected from the decisions taking in Europe. My presence here is to reaffirm the importance that the Spanish socialists and myself personally, attach to the EP".
||SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Alfredo Pérez RUBALCABA, Secretary General of PSOE (Partido Socialista Obrero Español): "We need to combine policies of austerity with growth and employment policies; only this combination will make us out of the crisis. I have been saying this for the last months in Spain, I have already said that it was not only me who supported this, and today the Spanish media can recognise in French the same I am saying in Spanish every day in our Parliament: we need to grow, we need to adjust our economy and grow, and in this matter, Europe has a huge responsibility"
||SOUNDBITE (French) Martin SCHULZ, EP President: "Greece has made promises and Europe also has made promises. What I expect from both parties is that they will keep its word. The EU has given a green light to Greece and I think that all those that think that they can regain the confidence of the people by renegotiating what has been finally decided and negotiated, those who are already challenging these decisions the day after they were taken, they are wrong."
||SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Alfredo Pérez RUBALCABA, Secretary General of PSOE (Partido Socialista Obrero Español): "The agreement on Greece today is very important; for Greece, as they are living a extremely complicated situation, but also for the whole Europe. This agreement will allow Greece to see its future in a different way; and, as I said today before meeting Commissioner Almunia: let's hope this is the final agreement, the one which will solve the situation".
