Andris Piebalgs, Member of the EC in charge of Development, was in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on 16 November 2010. He met with Аdkhаm Ikramov, Uzbek Minister for Public Health, and with representatives of the "Improving Inclusion for Disabled Young People through Environmental Education" project. The concept of inclusive education is relatively new in Uzbekistan and disabled young people are mainly educated in special schools. This project helps young people with disabilities by integrating them with children from mainstream schools. The project is part of the Institution Building and Partnership Programme (IBPP). Andris Piebalgs then visited the National Centre for the Social Adaptation of Children, which protects the rights and interests of children with disabilities and special needs through providing assistance in developing laws as well as improving services in this field.
