End production: 23/03/2010 First transmission: 23/03/2010
On 23 March 2010, Connie Hedegaard, Member of the EC in charge of Climate Action, hosted a trilateral meeting in Brussels between the European Commission, the Spanish EU Presidency and China. Europe wants to maintain its leadership in ongoing global climate talks. China's top climate negotiator, Su Wei, General Director of the climate change department at the Chinese Development and Reform Commission, said the EU should not step back but instead put pressure on other developed countries that have not ratified the Kyoto Protocol to make comparable emission cuts. The EU and China shared the view that countries should continue negotiations under the two-track approach embodied by the Kyoto Protocol and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
