On 23 March 2010, Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki, Former President of South Africa, paid a visit to Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the EC, in Brussels. They talked about his capacity of chairman of the African Union’s High Level Panel on Sudan. Catherine Ashton considers that priority in efforts to resolve the conflict situation in Sudan should now be on credible and peaceful elections in April 2010, and that all parties have to fully respect the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, addressing rapidly the remaining outstanding issues and abstaining from any unilateral actions
