From Monday 22 to Friday 26 March 2010 the 4th edition of the EU Sustainable Energy Week took place in Brussels and in other major cities across Europe. In this framework, Günther Oettinger, Member of the EC in charge of Energy, Miguel Sabastian Gascon, Spanish Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism and Herbert Reul, Member of the EP and Chairman of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, gave a press point. The future landscape of European energy supply and demand has to make much greater use of new renewable energy sources and focus more upon energy-efficient methods. Europe is already a leading advocate in the fight to halt the depletion of natural resources and prevent climate change. The main task is now to persuade both consumers and key decision-makers of the benefits of sustainable energy production and use The Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign is a European Commission initiative in the framework of the Intelligent Energy - Europe programme, which aims to raise public awareness and promote sustainable energy production and use among individuals and organisations, private companies and public authorities, professional and energy agencies, industry associations and NGOs across Europe.

And that is what they are talking about this week. They want to have an increase on the overall impact in order to reach a large possible number of EU citizens, they need to raise a awareness, and it is just not that, people need to be prepared to change, and they want to stimulate action on the part of every individuals. This energy week is a platform for the exchange of idea, and it is also a place for innovative projects to be presented.

He thinks they do have to realize how important is to take into account transport, infrastructure and that is why as a new instrument they will look at the energy efficiency of their transport networks, and they will also look at the intelligent smart way in which they can boost renewable, new sources of energy.

Now, they should see what the reality is in term of implementation in Member States. That will show whether they can achieve the intended effect. He is very grateful to the Commission here, for taking the time to ensure that they have a sensible assessment of the facts on the ground, on the basis of which they could then take decisions.
