Vladimir Filat, Moldovan Prime Minister, visited Jacques Barrot, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Justice, Freedom and Security, on 30 September 2009 in Brussels.
Vladimir Filat was appointed Moldovan Prime Minister on 25 September 2009 by Mihai Ghimpu's, Acting President of Moldova.
Jacques Barrot and Vladimir Filat discussed the political situation in Moldova as well as justice related subjects.
2009 has been a troubled year for Moldova. After contested parliamentary elections results in April 2009, opposition protest in Chisinau turned into riots, leading to the killing of three young people. After dissolution of the Parliament, shortly followed by the resignation of President Vladimir Voronin, the freshly elected Parliament had two months to elect a new President, which choice was Mihai Ghimpu.
