The EU Ministers for Foreign Affairs met with their counterparts of the NATO member countries on 4 March 2009 in Brussels, under the invitation of the Belgian government. It was the 6th Transatlantic Gymnich and the first visit of Hillary Rodham Clinton, US Secretary of State, since she took in office, to Brussels. The Ministers met just before the Summit of the NATO members which would take place on 5 March 2009 in Brussels. They had many issues on the table: Russia, Iran, Afghanistan - after the bomb attack that day which killed three European militaries - and also the Middle East, from where Hillary Rodham Clinton was coming straight.
