They will never get the reconstruction of Gaza if the crossing points are not opened, and still the number of items that are going through the borders is very limited. The objective of the meeting was thus to tackle means of coordination between the Arab and European sides during the upcoming phase and follow up the conclusions of the Gaza Reconstruction Conference, recently held in Sharm el-Sheikh.

||SOUNDBITE (in ENGLISH) by Karel Schwarzenberg, Czech Minister for Foreign Affairs and President in office of the Council: We expect the national court will rally Palestinians behind President Mahmud Abbas, and produce an administration that will live up to the peace commitments made by the Palestinian representation in the past. We expect the same respect for the past commitments from the new government of Israel.

||SOUNDBITE (in ENGLISH) by Riad Malki, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian National Authority: Obviously, all efforts that are being made, and will being made in the future as a result of the Sharm el-Sheikh summit, for the early recovery, and for the reconstruction of Gaza, might be totally undermined if Israel will continue their refusal to allow construction material to enter into Gaza, in order to help the reconstruction in Gaza.
||SOUNDBITE (in ENGLISH) by Javier Solana, Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High Representative for CFSP: I have to tell you very frankly also that in these two weeks, and still the crossings are not opened, and still the number of items that are going through the borders is very very limited, and we will never get the reconstruction of Gaza. Therefore, that has to change.
||SOUNDBITE (in ENGLISH) by Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Member of the EC in charge of External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy: It is most important that, now that we have a new American administration and that we had a very good first conversation with them on different meetings, we also find two parties that are really ready to go for the two state solution that we all support.
||SOUNDBITE (in ENGLISH) by Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Egyptian Minister for Foreign Affairs: On Sudan, I do not believe that the Security Council will be an opposition to act on the issue soon, because of the situation internally within the members of the Security Council. We suggest a global and comprehensive approach to that issue ,tackling all issues together in a package, in a concerted and comprehensive package. Let's hope that at a certain point in time, that will be clear for everybody to understand and then to act accordingly.
