||SOUNDBITE by Benita Ferrero-Waldner (in ENGLISH): it was the first Quartet meeting with Hillary Rodham Clinton, US Secretary of State, and George Mitchell, US Special Envoy for the Middle East, under the new Obama Administration; it was very important that this Administration and Secretary Clinton has taken it on very seriously; it is very clear that she wants to really go back and find this political issue, not only the peace process but hopefully political talks; but at the same time, to work with the EU also for things to happen on the ground because it is as important to get things done on the ground as it is of course to have the political process there.

||SOUNDBITE by Benita Ferrero-Waldner (in ENGLISH): we have always said that we are in favour of reconciliation behind Mahmoud Abbas, President of the Palestinian Authority, and this is still the position; of course now we hope that the Egyptians, who are working very strongly, get a chance to get this reconciliation going, a National Unity Government going together with all the other partners and maybe another item that is very important is the Arab Peace Initiative that has to be on the table.
