Javier Solana (in ENGLISH) saying that it is a pleasure to be in Syria again; saying that the meeting had to do with bilateral relations between Syria and the European Union, but also with regional problems; the EU has been engaged; they think that Syria can play an important role, it is an important country; the reason why they come so often is because they want to put in symphony their way of looking at the regional problems; it is very important that in 2009 they are able to create a dynamic that will move the peace process that for them is comprehensive in itself but it has to include all the tracks; that is what they are trying to do with this visit; they are going to be in Cairo on 2 March at the Donors Conference; it will be very important with 18 countries participating; Syria will be present, the EU will be present, and they would like this conference to be a success in particular for the people in Gaza and the people in Palestine.
