Krisztina Nagy, spokesperson of Olli Rehn Member of the EC in charge of Enlargement, gave a midday press briefing on the importance of free and fair elections in Skopje, in Macedonia, in view of the European future of the country.
And she welcomed that the observation mission deployed by OSCE for the country's 22 March 2009 presidential and municipal elections, is already monitoring closely the development on the ground.

||Krisztina Nagy saying (in ENGLISH) that on the elections campaign in Skopje in Macedonia, she can tell us in general, that it is clearly that their delegation is in regular contact with the authorities, as well as with all candidates to the next presidential elections, and with major party leaders. They are confident that all stakeholders are fully aware of the importance of free and fair elections in view of the European future of the country. They are also welcoming that context, some news from today, that the leaders of the main political parties have made to discuss the details of the procedures for election day.
And more specifically concerning the beginning of the electoral campaign, they welcome that the observation mission is already monitoring closely the development on the ground. And finally, she would like to confirm that the assessment of the 22 March 2009 elections will be of crucial importance. This assessment will not be limited to election day, but of course, will include an evaluation of the regularity of the campaign as well.
