10:11:57 SOUNDBITE (English) by Olli Rehn: I can ensure you that the European Commission remains committed to the European perspective of Albania and the Western Balkans as a whole. The overall picture of EU - Albania relations is encouraging. Albania has made progress on democracy and the rule of law issues. It is implementing its commitments under the interim agreement of the SAA well and smoothly. But more work remains to be done, especially as regards democratic culture and the independence of state institutions. As regards the rule of law and the fight against organised crime and corruption, plenty of important challenges remain. Ensuring the proper preparation and the conduct of the parliament elections next year in accordance with international standards is a key condition for Albania's further progress on its European road. In this context, the Commission welcomes the adoption of the new electoral code in the Parliament of Albania. We will make our assessment on the future parliamentary elections based on the electoral monitoring that is conducted as usual by the OSCE. 00:01:39
