Javier Solana, Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High Representative for CFSP, met Serzh Sargsyan, President of Armenia, on Wednesday 5 November 2008, to discuss EU/Armenia relations and the latest developments in the South Caucasus region.
Javier Solana welcomed the declaration that was adopted on 2 November 2008 in Moscow by the presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia -which calls for a political settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict- and hoped that this will be a first step towards a better relation.
Serzh Sargsyan welcomed the election of Barack Obama as new US President and expressed his confidence that this choice would contribute to improve relations between Turkey and Armenia.
