Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the Andean Community visited Benita Ferrero-Waldner, Member of the EC in charge of External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, on 11 November 2008 in Brussels. The countries of the Andean Community didn't get a consensus to negotiate the Free Trade Agreement with the EU. Therefore the expected meeting with all the Foreign Ministers of the Andean Community was cancelled. However, Jaime Bermúdez, Colombian Minister for Foreign Affairs, and José Antonio García Belaúnde, Peruvian Minister for Foreign Affairs, decided to come and meet with Benita Ferrero-Waldner. In the meeting, both Ministers intended to define the mechanism of negotiation between the EU and the CAN (Andean Community). They also spoke about possible bilateral agreements.
