José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Felipe González Márquez, Chairman of the Think Tank on the Future of the EU, met on 4 November 2008 for a working lunch to have a first exchange of views on the future work of the Think Tank.
Felipe González Márquez has been put in charge of a Committee of Wise Men to draft a report on 'The Future of Europe' which should make proposals regarding the EU's long-term future up until 2020-2030. He will be assisted by two Vice-Presidents: Jorna Ollila, former Chairman of the Finnish cell phone manufacturer Nokia, and Vaira Vike-Freiberga, former President of Latvia. Among the other Members are: Lech Walesa, former President of Poland, Mario Monti, former Member of the European Commission in charge of Competition, Wolfgang Schuster, German politician and Member of the CDU, Nicole Notat, former leader of the CFDT (French Democratic Confederation of Labour), and Lykke Friis, Prorector of the University of Copenhagen.
