Michel Barnier, French Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, and Joe Borg, Member of the EC in charge of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, gave a press conference on the results of the Council meeting. The European Ministers in charge of Fisheries meeting in Luxembourg have reached an agreement on the fishing possibilities and conditions in the Black Sea and Baltic Seas for 2009. They have also adopted a European common position in view of the upcoming annual meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna (ICCAT) to ask for a reduction on the quotas and for a stricter control system at all levels.
