The European Ministers in charge of Fisheries, meeting on 27 October 2008 in Luxembourg, were expected to reach agreement on the fishing possibilities and conditions in the Black Sea and Baltic Seas for 2009. The fishing possibilities in deep waters used by EU vessels for 2009-2010 were also examined. On 1 October 2008, the European Commission proposed to revise the catch volumes downwards. The adoption of a European common position to the upcoming annual meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna (ICCAT), and an exchange of views on the bilateral fishing agreement with Norway, with a particular focus on shared stocks such as North Sea cod, were also on the table of the Ministers' meeting.
