|| Exterior view of the European Parliament in Brussels
|| Jean-Pierre Jouyet, French Minister of State with responsibility for European Affairs and President in office of the Council, (in FRENCH) saying that they must continue acting without delay as said at the EcoFin ministerial meeting; it is urgent to reassure depositors and to stabilise the inter bank market;
saying that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) must be the main forum for carrying on the debate between world players; the IMF has to become a financial policeman as it was meant to be at the beginning and should, as was laid down at the end of the second world war, carry on dealing with monetary stability and not just checking developing countries economy;
on the EU immigration pact as an opportunity for Europe;
on EU's support to eastern neighbours to modernize and help their democracies;
|| José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, (in ENGLISH) on a common approach to supervise Europe; saying that two thirds of the banking assets in the EU have a trans-border nature; so there is a European dimension and they need to respond to that European dimension with a true European solution;
saying that in the short term, they need to ensure that rescue operations and other public interventions take place in a coordinated and consistent European framework; on the measures for the medium and longer term;
