Following crucial European talks the previous day on the implementation of the interim trade agreement between the EU and Serbia, Bozidar Djelic, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, met on 16 September 2008 with Olli Rehn, Member of the EC in charge of Enlargement, to review the integration process and to discuss the way ahead. They talked about the decision by the EU Member States not to defrost the application of the interim trade agreement that would pave the way for the arrival of new foreign investors in the country. The agreement is a part of the SAA (Stabilisation and Association Agreement), suspended immediately after its signing in April, pending Belgrade's full cooperation with the Hague Tribunal. Commenting the decision, Boris Tadic, President of Serbia, said on 15 September that Serbia would not give up its strategic goal - European integration - even if the Council of Ministers of the European Union did not rule to unblock the implementation of the interim trade agreement between the EU and Serbia.
