Visit of Nicolas Sarkozy, Javier Solana and José Manuel Barroso to the Russian authorities

Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the French Republic and President in office of the Council of the EU, arrived in Moscow on 8 September 2008 to discuss the road map for the Russian/Georgian dispute and look at a way to establish lasting peace after the military conflict in South Ossetia in August. Later in the day he was expected to fly to Tbilisi. Nicolas Sarkozy was accompanied by José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, and Javier Solana, Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High Representative for CFSP, to meet Dmitry Medvedev, President of Russia. Both sides had to achieve mutual agreement about the conflict that occurred a month before, and arrange all the points in releasing of tensions.
