End production: 01/07/2008 First transmission: 01/07/2008
Dimitrij Rupel, Slovenian Minister for Foreign Affairs, symbolically handed over the EU Presidency to his French counterpart Bernard Kouchner, French Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, on 1 July 2008, the last day of Slovenia's six-month stint as the EU's rotating President. The official handover took place at midnight in Paris and, symbolically, Dimitrij Rupel presented Bernard Kouchner with a relay baton and an EU flag. They both pushed a button to light the Eiffel Tower with the colors and the stars of the EU flag.
