Type: Visit to the Commission   Reference: I-058000   Duration: 10:02:05  Lieu:
End production: 23/06/2008   First transmission: 23/06/2008
The day before the Fisheries Council, Joe Borg, Member of the EC in charge of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, met a delegation of tuna fishermen. The Commission faced like this the sector after the interdiction to fish tuna and the raise of oil prices. The Ministers will seek to reach political agreement on legislative proposals establishing a system to prevent illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing; concerning authorisations for fishing activities of Community fishing vessels outside Community waters and the access of third country vessels to Community waters; and on the protection of vulnerable marine ecosystems in the high seas. The Ministers will also exchange views on the Commission’s policy statement on fishing opportunities for 2009 and revision of the Celtic Sea cod fishing quotas. Under AOB, the Presidency will also inform the Ministers regarding the implications of high fuel prices for fisheries sector activities.
