Visit of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Chairman of the European Club Association (ECA) and of FC Bayern Munich, and Joan Laporta, Vice-Chairman of the European Club Association (ECA) and President of FC Barcelona, to Vladimír Špidla

Type: Visit to the Commission   Reference: I-057968   Duration: 11:07:31  Lieu:
End production: 18/06/2008   First transmission: 18/06/2008
Vladimír Špidla, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, received Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Chairman of the European Club Association (ECA) and of FC Bayern Munich, and Joan Laporta, Vice-Chairman of the European Club Association (ECA) and President of FC Barcelona, on 18 June 2008 in Brussels. The purpose of the visit was to talk about social dialogue in football and the 6+5 rule and the homegrown players rule. For the European Commission, the 'six-plus-five rule' is discriminatory and therefore incompatible with the EU law, while the "home-grown players" rule proposed by UEFA seems to comply with the principle of free movement of workers.
