Judgement of the Court of Justice of the EC in the case Deutsche Post Germany/EC (T-266/02) on State aid

Type: Report   Reference: I-058101   Duration: 10:25:20  Lieu:
End production: 01/07/2008   First transmission: 01/07/2008
The Court of Justice of the EC ruled on 1 July 2008 that Deutsche Post can claim back 572 million Euros in State aid received from Germany. In 2002, the European Commission told Deutsche Post it had received the money illegally and ordered it to repay it by saying that money had been used to subsidise the group's parcel delivery operations, which are open to competition, instead of to provide a postal service across the country. The Court of Justice of the EC ruled that the Commission failed to prove that the money given to the company had not been used for universal services.
