On 10 June 2008, Slovenia hosted the EU/US Summit which is the leading annual event in EU/US relations, held alternately in the United States and in the country holding the EU Council Presidency.
On this occasion, the European Union was represented by Janez Janša, Slovenian Prime Minister and President in office of the Council of the EU; José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission; and Javier Solana, Secretary General of the Council of the EU and High Representative for CFSP; while the United States were represented by George W. Bush, President of the United States.
The Summit centred on the following key areas: regional and political issues; global security issues; present-day global challenges; and the bilateral transatlantic partnership.
After the meeting, Janez Janša, José Manuel Barroso and George W. Bush gave a joint press conference.
