The Committee of the Regions, the political assembly which represents the voice of Europe's regions and cities, opened its doors to the public as part of the 'Grand Festival of Europe' hosted by the EU institutions in Brussels on 7 June 2008. Luc van den Brande, President of the Committee of the Regions, hosted the event and was on hand to meet visitors at the Committee's headquarters building. Inside, they discovered a lively and colourful exhibition, showcasing Europe's diverse culture and regional strength. The Committee of the Regions expected around 5.000 visitors, who would have the chance to find out more about the Committee's work and to savour the flavour of more than 50 regions and cities which had stands in the exhibition. They aimed to transform the building into the best exhibition in town of European diversity for the whole family. The main theme of the festival was the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.

||Luc van den Brande (in ENGLISH) saying that Europe is not just 2 square kilometers of Brussels and that is the reason why they try to give a view of the right reality of the diversity of cultures in Europe; Europe of course has to have its institutions; but Europe belongs to the daily life challenges of people; so, when you see the mixure of cultures, of identities, of people working in the regions, it is important; he had the occasion to speak to people and they said they didn't know that it was also part of the common European space; that is the reason why they have to open the doors, not one day, but in fact all the days of the year
