End production: 03/06/2008 First transmission: 03/06/2008
Green Week 2008 took place from 3 to 6 June. It took a closer look at the sustainable use of natural resources, focusing on waste management, sustainable consumption and production. The event provided a unique opportunity for debate, exchanges of experience and best practice among non-governmental organisations, businesses, various levels of government and the public. On 3 June, Stavros Dimas, Member of the EC in charge of Environment, made a speech at the opening session. There was also an exhibition with 64 stands about LIFE projects, green business solutions, NGO activities, local and regional authorities, European and international bodies, etc. That was the "traditional" Green Week exhibition, which was open during the four days of the Green Week conference.

||Stavros Dimas (in ENGLISH) saying that the sustainable production and consumption of products, the prevention of waste and the correct treatment of waste, are all necessary in order to preserve our precious resources and to secure our economies;
saying that what the EC is doing is first of all the revision of the ECO design directive; products will be designed in such a way that will take care of various environmental problems that have been identified; the products will become more environmentally friendly; and because it is necessary for the consumers to know about the products, the ECO labelling directive will be amended accordingly;
saying that using electric appliances, for example, which are consuming less electricity, is good for the family budget, it saves money; so environmental objectives are helping the economy, are helping the family budget, are helping the consumers to meet the everyday cost of life;
