Type: Visit to the Commission
End production: 04/06/2008 First transmission: 04/06/2008
Alain Rousset, President of the Association of Regions of France (Association des Régions de France), which represents the 26 French regions, and a delegation of Presidents of the Regional Council visited José Manuel Barroso, President of the EC, on 4 June 2008 in Brussels. They discussed the current European regional agenda and the Cohesion Policy programmes for 2007-2013 which are set to boost jobs and growth throughout the EU's Member States and regions.
Earlier that day, the European Commission had, under the EC Treaty rules on State aid, authorised the extension of the French regional aid map to cover the areas of Châteaudun and Nogent-le-Rotrou in the departments of Eure-et-Loir and Amiens Nord (Somme). The aim of this extension is to address the serious economic problems these areas have recently faced by allowing firms located there to benefit from aid for investment and job creation.
