A ministerial EU Troika meeting with Nigeria took place on 20 May 2008, headed on the EU side by Dimitrij Rupel, Slovenian Minister for Foreign Affairs and President in office of the Council, and on the Nigerian side by Ojo Maduekwe, Nigerian Minister for Foreign Affairs. Political cooperation between the EU and Nigeria belongs to the context of cooperation under the Cotonou Agreement. The ministerial Troika is an opportunity to strengthen political dialogue between the EU and Nigeria after an interval of several years. The agenda of the ministerial Troika covers the global themes that are part of the Africa/EU Joint Strategy adopted at the Africa/EU Summit, issues connected with African/EU relations (in particular security and development challenges) and matters of importance to relations between Nigeria and the EU.
