In his address to the "Brussels Economic Forum 2008", Dominique Strauss-Khan, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, said that the Euro was a clear success, but he added that it had not yet been completed. From his point of view, it is necessary to improve coordination and to have stronger institutions and a stronger Eurogroup to be able to speak with one voice and to give to the Euro the political influence that it deserves.

11:15:29 Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, (in ENGLISH) saying that the European Central Bank is now a credible and respected central bank; inflation expectations are generally rather low, at least lower than in other big economic countries or set of countries 00:00:19

11:15:53 Dominique Strauss-Kahn (in ENGLISH) saying that if we look at the situation we are in, with the crisis originated in the USA, and if we try to analyse what would have happened without the Euro, it is obvious: the Euro is a success and there is no way to answer differently 00:00:19
11:16:12 Cutaway 00:00:05
11:16:17 Dominique Strauss-Kahn (in ENGLISH) saying that today, at least, the Euro has not the influence in the international system it should have; and when you look at the reason for that then you come back to something that has been discussed a lot which is that the Euro may have an economic influence but doesn't have the political influence it should have 00:00:30
11:16:47 Cutaway 00:00:05
11:16:52 Dominique Strauss-Kahn (in ENGLISH) saying that before asking to answer the institutional question of having a single chair, the point is to be able to coordinate the external face of the Euro in a way which makes it possible to have a single expression, a single position, on the different questions, which is still not the case today 00:00:23
11:17:15 Cutaway 00:00:05
11:17:20 Dominique Strauss-Kahn (in ENGLISH) saying that ten years ago they began all together to build something; ten years later a lot of successes are there, but the Euro is still not completed; they still have to do and what has to be done is not that much on the technical side but to go on on what was the political will of the founders: mainly to, through the Euro, make it possible to have a better coordination in the policies 00:00:33
11:17:53 Cutaway 00:00:05
11:17:58 Dominique Strauss-Kahn (in ENGLISH) saying that the Euro, in his view, is not completed; it will be completed only when, having a single currency, the EU will be able to have, not a single economic policy, but at least a really coordinated economic policy; and that backs to the question of institutions; and the way to do that is to have stronger institutions and in that case a stronger Eurogroup 00:00:25
