Vladimír Špidla, Member of the EC in charge of Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, participated in a conference organised on 15 May 2008 at the European Parliament about the "Role and Challenges of the Social Economy in the EU". For him, the social economy is one of the main pillars of the Lisbon Strategy.
