On 9 May 2008, Europe Day, EU officials working in external cooperation went and met students in schools of various EU Member States. This initiative aimed to raise young people’s awareness of EC actions to combat poverty throughout the world and provides a platform for discussion. Louis Michel, Member of the EC in charge of Development and Humanitarian Aid, and the Ambassador of Burkina Faso to the EU and Benelux met with students of the Christ-Roi College in Ottignies, Belgium, who spent 20 days in Burkina Faso in March/April. During their stay, they helped build a polyvalent education centre and visited an EC financed project in Ouagadougou to help street children. The students showed a film they made of their trip. Afterwards they were given the opportunity to put their questions to the Commissioner and the Ambassador.
