EU Ministers said they managed to reach a synthesis of two important themes: confronting climate change and sustaining biodiversity. Janez Podobnik said that sustainability means to do things in such a way as to maintain biodiversity and, at the same time, battle hunger and poverty. Stavros Dimas said that European Union needs to adapt to climate change and help poorer nations adapt so they can avoid its negative consequences. He said fighting deforestation was the best and cheapest way to reduce emissions.
