Peter Mandelson, Member of the EC in charge of Trade, went to Ukraine in February 2008 and met with Viktor Yushchenko, President of Ukraine. They both reiterated their common ambition to negotiate a deep and comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the EU and Ukraine. Peter Mandelson accepted the invitation to travel to Kiev to launch the negotiations as soon as possible following the formal ratification of Ukraine's WTO membership. Peter Mandelson and Viktor Yushchenko also discussed current bilateral trade issues.
